New ColorStream 8133 enhances production efficiency and reduces environmental impact at Datagraphic’s carbon-neutral facility.

Rugby, UK – 24th October 2024

Datagraphic, a leading provider of secure communication solutions, today begins the installation of the Canon ColorStream 8133 at its carbon-neutral production centre in Rugby. This investment marks a major step in the company’s drive to increase production efficiency and support sustainable practices.

The new ColorStream 8133 is another significant investment Datagraphic has made this year into its sustainable operations.

The technology integrates seamlessly with Datagraphic’s current workflows. It provides a 60% increase in production capacity while maintaining the company’s dedication to energy efficiency, waste reduction and overall commitment to sustainable operations.

“We are thrilled to integrate this technology as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and delivering the highest quality to our clients,” said Sarah Butler, Managing Director of Datagraphic.

Butler continues,
“In a climate where organisations are feeling pressure to operate more cost-effectively, use smarter processes and reduce their environmental impact, our investment demonstrates Datagraphic’s forward-thinking approach. The ColorStream 8133 is the second addition to the UK production centre this year, having already introduced the Canon varioPRINT iX3200 in summer 2024.”

Sustainable decision-making

Sustainability was a crucial factor for Datagraphic in partnering with Canon. The new Canon ColorSteam 8133 contributes to less energy consumption and reduced waste paper in a number of ways:

  • Lean paper usage: The Canon ColorStream 8133 delivers first-page printing in print production and post-processing. Every print starts with page 1 quality, reducing paper consumption.
  • Reduced paper waste: The device reduces operational paper waste by printing during speed ramps and offers waste-free print pauses. It eliminates the need to discard more than 100 feet of paper otherwise wasted during pauses and restarts.
  • Reduced energy efficiency: The ColorStream 8133 features an advanced modular drying system with three contact dryers designed to accommodate a wide range of paper types. It offers low power consumption and minimal maintenance without compromising print quality or wear to machinery, contributing to reduced energy usage.
  • Error-free handling and fewer reprints: The tension-controlled paper path allows for error-free handling of lightweight paper without manual adjustments. It prevents wrinkles or misfires that require reprints to cut down on wasted materials and energy.

These features make the ColorStream 8133 a more sustainable solution for high-volume printing, significantly reducing energy consumption and paper waste. This aligns with Datagraphic’s validated near-term, long-term, and net-zero targets under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), signatory of The  Climate Pledge signatory and a B Corp Certified business.

Datagraphic anticipates a completion date of mid-November, meaning both new devices will be fully operational for 2025.
