UK document automation company Datagraphic joins the growing movement of companies using business as a force for good.

Datagraphic has today announced its certification as a B Corporation (or B Corp), joining a growing movement of companies reinventing business for the benefit of all people and our shared planet.

Verified by B Lab, the not-for-profit behind the B Corp movement, the achievement demonstrates that document automation and digital transformation business, Datagraphic, meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability alongside a commitment to goals beyond shareholder value.

Glyn King, CEO of Datagraphic, comments, “At the heart of Datagraphic are a team of passionate people, who for years have been working to make our business more sustainable for the benefits of people, the planet, communities and our partners. In more recent years, we have formalised our efforts in a far-reaching Social Impact Strategy and built initiatives that encourage us to do more and others to join us.”

Becoming B Corp Certified

To achieve certification, Datagraphic had to undergo a rigorous assessment process administered by B Lab to measure and verify several impact areas, including the environment, clients, community, and employees.

Datagraphic achieved a score of 89.5 points in the B Impact Assessment, providing evidence of responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency. The business has also legally embedded its commitment to purpose as well as profit in its company articles.

Datagraphic has been focused on doing things right from day one for over 30 years. Making a conscious effort to operate as an environmentally and socially responsible business. In more recent years, Datagraphic has achieved some impressive milestones, including having its carbon reduction targets approved and validated by SBTi, becoming a signatory of The Climate Pledge, and aligning operations with the UN SDGs, amongst other achievements.

Through B Corp status, Datagraphic has now become part of the Better Business Act — a coalition of over 2,000 businesses campaigning for a change to the law that would see all companies in the UK align their long-term interests with those of wider society and the environment.

Glyn continues, “Achieving B Corp certification is a huge recognition for Datagraphic. The rigorous process has demonstrated that every decision we make balances profit and purpose and considers the social impact of how we operate. We are delighted to have joined the B Corp community alongside other like-minded organisations.”

Datagraphic is now part of a growing community of over 8,000 businesses globally that have been certified as B Corps. The B Corp community in the UK is one of the largest and fastest-growing in the world, with over 2,000 companies spanning a range of different industries and sizes. Names include The Guardian, Innocent Drinks, Patagonia, Tony’s Chocolonely, The Big Issue, Finisterre, Elemis, and Sipsmith Gin.

Chris Turner, executive director of B Lab UK, says:

“Welcoming Datagraphic to the B Corp community is hugely exciting. Its commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and will help spread the notion that success in business is as much about people and planet as it is profit.”

About B Corp Certification:

B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall social and environmental impact of the company that stands behind it. To achieve B Corp Certification, a company must meet a score of at least 80 points on the B Impact Assessment, an evaluation of a company’s positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company’s negative impact; change their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders; and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their B Corp Certification performance to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website. B Corps recertify every three years and once certified, are expected to increase their score over time as they progress towards becoming more equitable, inclusive and regenerative businesses.
