Datagraphic signs The Climate Pledge

The Climate Pledge

Datagraphic commits to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 or sooner.

Today, Datagraphic announced its commitment to The Climate Pledge

Datagraphic is a document automation specialist committed to delivering sustainable mail.

Being the only UK SME in its industry with net-zero targets approved and validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), Datagraphic boasts robust sustainability credentials.

As one of only 464 organisations globally to become a signatory of The Climate Pledge, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) remains a key focus.

Social impact is more than a plan for Datagraphic. ESG informs responsible decisions and actions aligned with four pillars: Planet, PeopleCommunities and Partners.

Datagraphic pledges to reduce scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions by 46% by 2030 from a 2019 base year and to measure and reduce scope 3 emissions.

As a business, it also commits to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. It has signed up to The Climate Pledge, a company commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism in 2019, The Climate Pledge is a commitment by companies to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040—a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

Climate Pledge commitments

Signatories to The Climate Pledge agree to:

  • Measure and report greenhouse gas emissions regularly.
  • Implement decarbonisation strategies in line with the Paris Agreement through real business changes and innovations, including efficiency improvements, renewable energy, materials reductions, and other carbon emission elimination strategies.
  • Neutralise any remaining emissions with additional, quantifiable, real, permanent, and socially beneficial offsets to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040 — a decade ahead of the Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

Datagraphic follows a science-based approach to become a carbon-negative, climate-positive operation that maximises resources within a circular economy. As the only UK SME in the print industry with net-zero targets approved and validated by the SBTi, a participant in the UN Global Compact, and under assessment to become a B Corporation, the business strategy is aligned with the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiatives.

Key focus areas of Datagraphic’s sustainability strategy centre around decarbonisation, energy management and environmental management. Significant milestones contributing to the road to net zero so far include:

  • Reducing energy consumption through ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMs) certification.
  • Reducing environmental impact by achieving ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Installing 310,500 kWh of solar PV across the two operating centres to self-generate enough carbon-free renewable energy to power 100% of on-site operations.
  • Working with suppliers to increase innovation in operations and ensure resilient, ethical, and sustainable practices aligned with ethical trading policy.
  • Conducting lifecycle assessments to communicate the environmental performance or impact of any product or material over its lifetime, demonstrating resource usage and cradle-to-grave status for all products and services.
  • Reduce, reuse, recycle policy to contribute to a circular economy and maintain zero to landfill status.
  • Green travel policy, including EV or hybrid company car fleet.

Peter Wells, Head of Sustainability at Datagraphic, comments,

“As one of the UK’s 5.5 million SMEs, sustainability is not just a choice but a responsibility. Net zero won’t just happen. We need to be proactive, and Datagraphic is determined to lead the charge for our industry,.

Datagraphic has joined The Climate Pledge to reinforce our commitment and join a collaborative community to find new ways to create positive impact through business.”
