How long does it take you to make a judgment about a product, your environment, or even a document? On average it takes people 90 seconds to make this subconscious decision; so much for never judging a book by it’s cover! It’s suggested that between 62% and 90% of such judgments are constructed as a direct result of colour.

Colour has a long history, closely combined with mood and perception as demonstrated by the Egyptian’s who took a fascination in how colour effected peoples moods and also studied their healing properties. In the19th century, the colour of your clothes was a sure fire way to give yourself some status; the richer the colour, the richer you were – simple!

So how can a certain hue help increase engagement with your customer documents?

It’s suggested that colour helps people process and store information more efficiently than black and white, meaning that injecting it into your documents will ensure that they are not only read, but crucially; retained. Colour, used correctly, can also improve your customer’s state of mind, (who knew your customers and the ancient Egyptians had so much in common?) and as a result can deepen their relationship with you – you changed their mind set so they’re more likely to want to engage with you.
